Navigating the External and Internal World of Coaching

A network session with Priti Bhave, Victor Seet, and Saurav Atri on Wednesday, 23 August 2023, 7PM – 8:15PM SG/HK time.

Are you an External Coach (EC) or Internal Coach (IC)? If you have experienced both roles, which is your preference and why?

According to APAC’s 5th Coaching Survey, more companies plan to increase their overall focus on coaching, and 80% companies say that they will train their leaders to coach team members. Currently, 23% of companies engage external coaches, 8% companies are dependent on internal coaches, and the majority of companies, 69%, are using a combination of both external and internal coaches.

While more than 80% of companies and coaches agree that coaching is mainly facilitating self-help, 43% of companies say that coaches should also provide advice and guidance, 36% expect coaches to provide expertise and recommendations for implementation of action plans and 22% expect coaches to give instructions. While ECs across APAC agree that the focus of coaching is mainly to facilitate self-help, ICs across APAC agree that coaching does more than that.

At this Coach Connect, we have a panel of 3 coaches who have experience with both external and internal coaching to share their insights. Come and mingle with fellow coaches and bring your questions and sharing to collectively drill deeper into the differences and insights between internal and external coaching.
